Thursday's Text

Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. James 5:7-8 NIV.

Monday's Text

Our heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. Matthew 6:32-33 NLT

Saturday's Text

Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what you right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:1-4 NIV.

Friday's Text

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your heart is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 NIV.

Playfield Update

Hooray! Soon the students and the entire church family will once again have a play field. This has been made possible by a tremendous amount of volunteer work and business discounts. We are truly blessed.

Bob Hablitzel drew the original plans and continues as an expert guide and counselor.

Jeff Hofmann, re-measured the elevation after new dirt was added, and re-drew the plan.

Work bees where the church/school family helped clean up the area and then installed all the irrigation pipes for the field were indispensable. Thank you very much, one and all.

David Hull, of Dave’s Backhoe Service, did a great job grading and trenching for a much appreciated discounted amount.

Rich Mattern spent many, many gratis hours on the irrigation system supply needs, and installment coordination.

Roger Doyle of NORMAC made a very special spot in his heart for the irrigation supplies of this project with discounts and consultation.

Karen Novotny and RainBird generously donated major components of the irrigation system, so that everything would mesh.

KJM Landscaping is taking up the baton to finish the technical parts of the irrigation system and finish grading.

David Novotny with Berco Redwood Inc. is graciously discounting the wood and the installation of the borders for the track, ramp, and playground.

Hastie’s Capitol Sand and Gravel Co. is giving a non-for-profit price for the topsoil and decomposed granite.

AAA Hydro seeding is likewise favorably adjusting their invoice.

Teri Mulvihill and the school staff have researched and chosen a great first stage playground equipment/swings combination.

It is planned that the playground area is to be filled with ADA approved, quality Fibar engineered wood fibre. Rain has caused a little delay here and there, but being able to run, jump, swing, and picnic this spring is the goal.

Quick stats:
Area = about 2 acres
Field = 100 ft x 228 ft
Track = 220 yds, 11 ft wide
Playground area = 70 ft x 100 ft
Topsoil = 200 yds
D.G. = 90 yds
Fibar = 350 yds
Hydroseed = 45,000 sq ft

Keep an eye out for upcoming areas where you can help: tree planting, drinking fountains installation, drainage rock placement, garden area planning, etc.

God is good.

Jay and Maggie Draeger

School Notes

The 1st & 2nd graders are celebrating and thankful. They are celebrated the 100th day of school. On a very large poster they took turns writing down things for which they are thankful until the poster contained 100 items!

Wednesday is “study-buddy” day for the 4th graders and kindergartners. The six 4th graders look forward to this day each week when they study with the kindergartners. The 4th graders are kept hustling by the fifteen kindergartners.

The 5th & 6th graders are looking forward to their upcoming outdoor education experience at Pacific Union College Albion Field Station.

Wednesday's Text

Winter Youth Retreat

 Posted by HelloPhoto by Adam Innocent

Pastor Tim Cress took the Orangevale Youth on a winter retreat earlier this month. Ten youth and two leaders, including Pastor Cress, headed to the hills for a weekend of fellowship at high altitude. They rented a cabin owned by the Forest Service at Loon Lake that sleeps up to 20 people. The weekend was filled with singing, worship, food, fellowship and a lot of time outside enjoying God’s creation. This may become an annual event if a solution can be found for a certain young man with extraordinary snoring abilities.

Tuesday's Text

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:26 & 27 NIV.

3ABN Trip Girls Chorus Fundraisers

The Girls Chorus has been invited to record in southern Illinois at the 3-ABN studios. Their music will then air on the CHILDREN’S PRAISE show that is shown weekly around the world. This is a great mission opportunity for our church and our school to share Jesus through music.

The girls have been doing several fundraisers to raise the $$ needed to pay the airfare for 11 girls and adult chaperones for this mission trip. The first fundraiser was selling mandarin oranges. Thank you to Debbie Irwin who organized that fundraiser. We made over $700.00 from that effort. Thank you, also, to those who purchased the mandarins. We couldn’t have done it without you.

The second fundraiser was a Spaghetti hot lunch. This was headed by Debbie Irwin and Kristi Bradley-Robbins. The whole school benefited by partaking of the delicious spaghetti, carrots and garlic bread. They have another lunch scheduled later this month.

The third fundraiser was the Date Night Out which occurred last Saturday night. Thank you to Dave & Ginger Jewett for being in charge of that. Many parents enjoyed an evening out while the Jewetts and the members of the girls chorus watched the kids and organized games in the gymnasium.

The fourth fundraiser that is occurring right now is the fundraising letters that are going out to school and church families as well as to friends and family of the girl’s chorus. Thank you to Cindy Innocent for heading up this effort, and thank you to Grace Parker for supplying the flyers that are going in each letter. To all of you who might receive a letter, please prayerfully consider contributing to this mission effort. Your donation would be tax-deductible and made payable to the Orangevale SDA School.

Monday's Text

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it shall be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. James 1:5-7 NIV

"Wisdom means practical discernment. It begins with respect for God, leads to right living, and results in increased ability to tell right from wrong. God is willing to give us wisdom, but we will be unable to receive it if our goals are self-centered instead of God-centered. To learn God's will, we need to read His Word and ask Him so show us how to obey it. Then we must do what He tells us." Life Application Study Bible Footnote.

Back Building Secured

The back classroom building, formerly 5th & 6th, Kindergarten and 7th & 8th grade building was recently broken into. This last week, Brad Davis and Dave Jewett spent an early evening by vehicle headlight securing about 1/2 of the back windows with plywood. This Sunday morning, Dave Jewett and Steve Sattelmayer, secured the rest of the back windows with plywood. I met Dave and Steve this morning with gloves in hand. However, my assistance was limited by my skills . . . . I held the ladder, passed screws, plugged in extension cords . . . . you get the picture!
Stay turned for an invitation to a work party to prime and paint the plywood. If you feel this project is one for you to knock off some parental involvment hours or just want to help out - contact Steve or Dave.
Thanks to Steve and Dave for just getting it done!

Parent Date Night

Girls Chorus, under the supervision of Ginger and Dave Jewett, provided child care for about 25 youngsters Saturday evening. The night was a success with about 25 youngsters and ten members of the Girls Chorus playing games, drawing pictures, eating pizza and cookies while some parents enjoyed a date night.
One parent was overheard telling another that it was the first evening that they had felt comfortable leaving their youngster to go out on a date. On the financial front, the evening grossed over $300.00 with the net proceeds to help fund the Girls Chorus trip in March to 3ABN.
Rumor has it that future Date Nights are planned. Stay tuned . . . . .
Special thanks to Ginger and Dave and the Girls Chorus for sharing a fun evening with the youngsters and providing some parents with an opportunity to go on a date.

Girls Chorus Visits Shingle Springs

This Saturday the Orangevale Girls Chorus sang at the Shingle Springs SDA Church for the 11 o'clock service. The Girls Chorus sang several songs for a full church that included fellow students Morgan S. and Taylor S. who regularly attend Shingle Springs. Also in attendance were former students Cody M. and Robert M. The Girls Chorus Director, Brad Davis, particularly enjoyed the closeness of the worshippers and mentioned that he hoped the Girls Chorus would be invited to return next year. A special thanks is due Margaret K. for baking the tasty "Welcome Loaves" given to the Girls Chorus and their attending families.
